Fairfax County Public Schools is shifting community engagement on its boundary review to May and June, giving families and other residents time to examine initial draft scenarios before summer break.
Superintendent Michelle Reid announced the revised schedule during the Boundary Review Advisory Committee’s April 11 meeting at the Gatehouse Administration Center. Committee meetings will also expand to two hours to allow more time for members to study data and discuss possible changes.
The meeting focused on attendance islands—areas assigned to schools that are separated from the main portion of those schools’ attendance boundaries. Committee members divided into regional groups to review an initial scenario addressing those areas and record feedback.
The next meeting, scheduled for April 25, will examine split feeder patterns. A May 5 session will focus on school enrollment and overcrowding.
FCPS is also developing an online boundary tool that will allow users to examine proposals at the street level. The district expects to make the tool available to both committee members and the public in early May.
