Fairfax County Public Schools’ boundary review committee examined draft attendance maps on May 5 designed to reduce enrollment at substantially overcrowded schools to no more than 105% of capacity.
The draft scenario used capacity thresholds from the school system’s annual Capital Improvement Program to identify crowded campuses and propose possible boundary adjustments.
Kent Gardens Elementary School and Falls Church High School were excluded from the scenario because separate efforts to relieve overcrowding at those schools are already underway.
Committee members divided into regional groups at the Gatehouse Administration Center to compare “before and after” maps and review accompanying data tables. They recorded feedback on each proposed area for further consideration.
The committee also tested an interactive feedback tool ahead of community meetings beginning May 15. Those sessions will use a hybrid format, allowing families and other community members to participate either in person or virtually.
The meeting concluded with a review of the updated boundary process timeline and a question-and-answer session with Superintendent Michelle Reid and the project consultant.
