Fairfax County Public Schools students in grades 9 through 11 can apply to become the 2026 student representative to the School Board, an advisory role that gives students a voice in division leadership.
The representative is not a School Board member and cannot vote. Instead, the student serves in a nonvoting capacity and represents the interests of FCPS students. Responsibilities for the position are outlined in FCPS Policy 1802.
Applicants must live in Fairfax County or Fairfax City and attend an FCPS school. They do not need to be current delegates to the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.
Candidates must submit a written application by Monday, Feb. 23, 2026. They must also complete a 30-second video statement by March 16. A recording link will be emailed to candidates on March 2. Both components are required to qualify for the election.
Student Advisory Council delegates will elect the representative through a two-stage process. A virtual primary election will be held April 23 on Zoom, with candidate attendance optional. Results will be delivered by email.
Candidates advancing from the primary must attend the in-person general election during the school day on April 30 at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Additional election details will be emailed to candidates.
