Fairfax County Public Schools will welcome students back Monday, August 18, for the first day of the 2025-26 school year.

Superintendent Michelle Reid said schools have spent the summer preparing safe, welcoming learning experiences focused on academic excellence as well as curiosity, compassion, and confidence.

Families are encouraged to confirm required immunizations, set up tools for tracking grades and attendance, bookmark the school calendar, and review the first-day checklist. They can also purchase school meals or apply for free and reduced-price meals.

Changes this year include early-release Wednesdays and new menu items. Girls’ flag football is also among the updates highlighted for the coming year.

The district is entering the third year of its 2023-30 Strategic Plan, which will continue guiding programs and priorities for students.
