Fairfax County Public Schools announced two leadership appointments June 18, bringing in experienced administrators to oversee Region 1 schools and the division’s facilities and capital programs.

Dr. Jameile Choice was appointed assistant superintendent for Region 1. He has more than 15 years of public education experience and most recently served as executive director of transformation and innovation for Dallas ISD, one of Texas’ largest school divisions.

Choice has led Montessori, magnet, International Baccalaureate and single-gender campuses. His background includes instructional leadership, restorative practices and systemwide school improvement, along with developing school leaders and building student-centered cultures.

He has emphasized educational equity, innovation and academic achievement, as well as collaboration among principals, educators, families and the wider community.

Erik Gordon was appointed chief of facilities services and capital programs. His federal, military and private-sector career includes managing major real estate portfolios, overseeing construction projects and improving asset-management systems.

Gordon joined the U.S. Department of State in June 2022 as a division chief in the Office of Facilities Management Services, where he oversaw domestic facility operations and maintenance. In March 2025, he became office director for the Design and Construction Directorate, leading domestic design and construction efforts.

Before joining the State Department, Gordon completed a 30-year Army career that included responsibility for Army National Guard installation facilities. After retiring from the military, he managed two project-delivery teams at Raytheon Technologies, now RTX.

Gordon holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, a master’s degree in facility management from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College.
