Fairfax County Public Schools athletes closed the 2024-25 winter season with a sweeping collection of Virginia High School League Class 6 honors. Five teams and 36 individual or relay entries won state championships, while five teams and 35 individual or relay entries finished as runners-up.

Lake Braddock Secondary School’s gymnastics team led the team champions by securing its fourth consecutive state title. South Lakes High School boys basketball repeated as champion for the second straight year.

Chantilly High School won the boys swim and dive championship, South County High School captured the girls indoor track and field title, and West Springfield High School claimed the boys indoor track and field crown.

State champions

Gymnast Madi Bell of Lake Braddock won three titles: all-around, uneven parallel bars and balance beam.

The Class 6 wrestling champions were Michael Santos of Chantilly at 106 pounds, Carter Shin of Chantilly at 113, Tyler Dekraker of Chantilly at 138, Kross Cassidy of Fairfax at 165, Merritt Clington of Westfield at 175, Ethan Osburn of Hayfield at 190 and Harry Maltese of Fairfax at 215.

Swimming and diving titles went to:

  • Langley’s boys 200-yard medley relay
  • Joshua Donovan of Lake Braddock in the boys 200-yard freestyle
  • Sadie Buckley of Fairfax in the girls 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle
  • Josh Howart of Lake Braddock in the boys 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle
  • Nathaniel Grannis of Woodson in boys one-meter diving
  • Marleigh daSilva of Madison in girls one-meter diving
  • Chantilly’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay
  • Mike Soh of Centreville in the boys 100-yard backstroke
  • Kyle Li of Chantilly in the boys 100-yard breaststroke
  • Lilla Wilbur of Robinson in the girls 100-yard breaststroke
  • Chantilly’s boys 400-yard freestyle relay

Indoor track and field champions included:

  • Michael Murray of West Springfield in the boys pole vault
  • West Springfield’s boys 4x800-meter relay
  • Finn Middleton of South Lakes in the boys 55-meter hurdles
  • Catalina Sanchious of South County in the girls 55-meter dash
  • South County’s girls and boys 4x200-meter relays
  • Caroline Elliot of South Lakes in the girls 1,600- and 1,000-meter runs
  • South County’s girls 4x400-meter relay
  • West Springfield’s boys 4x400-meter relay
  • South Lakes’ girls 4x800-meter relay
  • Mia Mason of South County in the girls long jump
  • Apria Smith of Chantilly in the girls triple jump

State runners-up

Five FCPS teams placed second in Class 6 competition: Chantilly wrestling, Langley boys swim and dive, Robinson girls indoor track and field, South Lakes boys indoor track and field and Woodson boys basketball.

Gymnast Alexia Zakaryan of South County finished second on the uneven parallel bars.

The wrestling runners-up were Cristian Rojas of Hayfield at 106 pounds, Adam Husseini of West Springfield at 113, Troy Kang of Robinson at 120, Hana Coutts of Oakton in the girls 145-pound division, Aidan Sanders of South Lakes at 150 and Ashley Freeman of Mount Vernon at 215.

Swimming and diving runners-up included:

  • Robinson’s boys 200-yard medley relay
  • Ben Farello of Chantilly in the boys 200-yard freestyle
  • Emma Watts of Marshall in the girls 200-yard freestyle
  • Kyle Li of Chantilly in the boys 200-yard individual medley
  • Lilla Wilbur of Robinson in the girls 200-yard individual medley
  • Hunter Zipperer of Langley in the boys 50-yard freestyle
  • Ivor Brown of Chantilly in boys one-meter diving
  • Isabelle Whang of Oakton in girls one-meter diving
  • Yaron Li of Chantilly in the boys 100-yard freestyle
  • Aaron Jia of McLean in the boys 500-yard freestyle
  • Lake Braddock’s boys 200-yard freestyle relay
  • Liam Hickey of Robinson in the boys 100-yard backstroke
  • Blake Madsen of Chantilly in the boys 100-yard breaststroke
  • Lake Braddock’s boys 400-yard freestyle relay

Indoor track and field runners-up were:

  • Trent Saben of Chantilly in the boys pole vault
  • Mia Mason of South County in the girls 55-meter hurdles and 55-meter dash

  • Julia Wallace of South County in the girls 500- and 300-meter dashes
  • Harry Economon of Robinson in the boys 500-meter dash
