Fairfax County Public Schools is focusing on elementary-level split feeders as it considers targeted boundary changes intended to minimize disruption for students.
The Superintendent’s Boundary Review Advisory Committee met April 25, 2025, at the Gatehouse Administration Center to examine cases in which fewer than 25% of students from an elementary or middle school advance to a different middle or high school than their classmates.
A consultant demonstrated an upcoming online boundary tool that will allow the public to review proposed changes and submit feedback. The consultant also addressed committee members’ feedback and questions from the previous meeting.
Committee members then divided into regional groups to compare “before and after” maps and accompanying data for each proposed area. They recorded feedback on draft adjustments and discussed findings and guiding principles for eliminating split feeders.
FCPS said the review is concentrating primarily on elementary schools because boundary adjustments at that level can be more narrowly targeted and cause less disruption.
