A Centreville resident was injured Sunday when a fire broke out at a single-family home in the 13300 block of Regal Crest Drive.
Fairfax County firefighters were dispatched at 1:23 p.m. on March 29 after receiving multiple reports of the blaze. One civilian was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. No firefighters were injured.
Hundreds of people also gathered across Northern Virginia on Saturday for “No Kings” demonstrations opposing Trump administration policies. Protests took place in Alexandria, Fairfax, Springfield and other Virginia communities. In Washington, demonstrators crossed paths with National Cherry Blossom Festival visitors.
In Richmond, only a handful of the dozens of tax-related bills introduced during Virginia’s 2026 General Assembly session survived. Measures heading to Gov. Abigail Spanberger include proposals connected to legal retail marijuana sales as well as fantasy and skill gaming.
Carvana, meanwhile, is considering taking over a closed, 20,000-square-foot auto dealership at 6570 Amherst Avenue in Springfield. Planning documents indicate the Tempe, Arizona-based online vehicle retailer is exploring a new sales operation there. Carvana already has vehicle “vending machine” towers in Gaithersburg and Richmond, along with a storage yard and warehouse on Alban Road in Newington.
Spanberger also signed an executive order returning Virginia to the Electronic Registration Information Center, a multistate voter-roll program known as ERIC. The order limits when voters may be removed from the rolls before elections and reverses former Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s 2023 decision to withdraw Virginia from the system.
At George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association recently honored Leesburg native Sheila Coates for pressing the historic estate to recognize the people enslaved on the plantation. Her advocacy contributed to the installation of a memorial and helped make an annual October wreath-laying ceremony, begun in 1983, a permanent observance.
The Fairfax County Park Authority received a Governor’s Environmental Award for energy upgrades at Spring Hill Rec Center. The honor was presented March 24 during the Environment Virginia Symposium in Richmond and recognizes innovative projects that improve the state’s environment.
Elsewhere around the region, leading Northern Virginia chefs shared their favorite off-duty dining destinations, ranging from fine-dining restaurants to ice cream shops fit for special occasions.
Tysons Corner Center hosted its Blossom Bash on Sunday, where festival visitors could pose in a community garden and plant seeds.
Monday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies, a 40% chance of showers and a high near 69 degrees. Southwest winds around 14 mph could gust as high as 24 mph. Overnight conditions will be mostly cloudy, with a 30% chance of showers after 2 a.m. and a low near 59. Southwest winds around 10 mph could produce gusts up to 20 mph.
