Summer heats up across Northern Virginia this weekend with a packed calendar spanning frozen treats, founding fathers, and fandom celebrations. Here’s what’s happening from July 24 through 26.
McLean Community Players Stage ‘1776’ for America’s 250th
The timing couldn’t be better. As the nation approaches the semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence, McLean Community Players brings the Tony Award-winning musical “1776” to the Alden Theatre at 1234 Ingleside Ave. in McLean.
The production runs Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m., with performances continuing through August 2. The show dramatizes the debates, rivalries, and compromises among the Continental Congress delegates who hammered out American independence.
Bunnyman Brewing Hosts Inaugural Ice Cream Fest
Chantilly’s Bunnyman Brewing debuts its first Ice Cream Fest on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 14140 Parke Long Court. Local vendors will serve frozen treats alongside the brewery’s craft beer lineup—a combination purpose-built for triple-digit heat indices.
The Legwarmers Bring '80s Dance Party to Falls Church
The State Theatre at 220 N. Washington St. in Falls Church welcomes The Legwarmers on Saturday at 9 p.m. The tribute act specializes in decade-spanning '80s hits, promising a night of synth-pop, new wave, and enthusiastic audience participation.
SuperCon Fest Takes Over Bull Run

The Head and the Heart Celebrates 15 Years at Wolf Trap
Indie-folk band The Head and the Heart marks the 15th anniversary of their debut album with a full front-to-back performance at Wolf Trap’s Filene Center on Sunday at 8 p.m. The Seattle-based group will play their self-titled 2011 release in its entirety, plus additional material from their catalog. Folk-rock group Wilderado opens.
