Five restaurants with Fairfax-area locations have reached the finals of the 44th annual RAMMYS Awards, putting local tasting menus, Persian cuisine, pizza, bagels and classic deli sandwiches in contention for regional honors.

The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington announced the finalists Monday night after publicly revealing dozens of semifinalists last month for the first time.

Elyse, which opened in Fairfax City in 2024, is one of five contenders for Formal Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year. Former Clarity chef Jon Krinn’s 30-seat restaurant at 10822 Fairfax Blvd offers seasonal tasting menus and wines selected by staff sommelier David Hale. Retired Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema included Elyse among the region’s 40 best restaurants last year.

In Tysons, Joon is competing against four D.C. establishments for Upscale Casual Restaurant of the Year. Chefs Najmieh Batmanglij and Christopher Morgan co-founded the Persian restaurant and bar, which opened at Fairfax Square, 8045 Leesburg Pike, in June 2023. Joon has regularly appeared in Washingtonian’s annual rankings of the region’s best restaurants, but this appears to be its first spot on a RAMMYS shortlist.

Andy’s Pizza and Call Your Mother are both finalists for Fast Casual Restaurant of the Year.

Andy’s started at Tysons Galleria in 2018 and has since expanded to Fairfax City, Ballston, Alexandria, D.C. and Maryland. The pizza chain also reached the finals last year, when D.C. taco shop La Tejana won the category.

Call Your Mother began as a farmers’ market stall in D.C. and arrived in Northern Virginia in 2023 with its mobile Lil’ Deli truck at Chesterbrook Shopping Center in McLean. The bagel business later established a permanent storefront there and expanded into Vienna and Reston’s North Point Shopping Center.

Celebrity Delly, at 7263A Arlington Blvd in West Falls Church, is competing for Hottest Sandwich Spot of the Year. The deli has served handcrafted reubens and cheesesteaks since 1975 and was selected as Fairfax’s best sandwich shop in a local readers’ poll last year.

That honor is one of five categories decided by public voting rather than a judges’ panel. Voting will run from April 20 through May 17 through NBC Washington. The public will also choose the winners for Best Bar, Best Brunch, Favorite Gathering Place and the new Content Creator of the Year category.

Two additional finalists have plans to expand into Fairfax County. Old Ebbitt Grill, nominated for Service Program of the Year and Favorite Gathering Place, is expected to open its new Ebbitt House concept at Reston Station sometime this year. Ruthie’s All Day, a Best Brunch finalist, plans to open its second location at Fairfax Corner this spring.

The winners will be announced June 29 at a gala at Arena Stage in D.C.’s Wharf.

Restaurant Association President and CEO Shawn Townsend said the finalists are raising the region’s dining standards and creating experiences that keep customers returning.
