Flint Hill and Potomac School each opened the week with 10 victories, setting up a Jan. 25 meeting between two ranked local girls basketball teams enjoying strong seasons.

Potomac School entered the week 10-6 after six consecutive wins, while Flint Hill stood at 10-5 following back-to-back victories. The Panthers were ranked fifth and the Huskies seventh in the first Division I private-school state poll of the 2024-25 season.

Both teams compete in the Independent School League but play in different divisions. Potomac School, based in McLean, held second place in the upper AA Division with a 4-1 record. Oakton’s Flint Hill was 4-0 in the lower A Division, tying the Huskies for first in the loss column.

Potomac School’s latest victory was a 54-50 home win over Maret. Sabrina Eldredge led the Panthers with 14 points and four rebounds, while Ava Sewall contributed 12 points and four assists. Catherine Letendre added eight points and 10 rebounds, and Sabrina Anderson finished with six points and three assists.

The loss dropped Maret to 3-2 in league play. Sidwell Friends led the division at 3-0 and handed Potomac School its only AA Division defeat.

Flint Hill built its two-game winning streak by defeating St. John Paul the Great, 62-49, and National Cathedral, 39-22.

Senior Raigan McCalla, a career 1,000-point scorer, leads the Huskies. She began the season with 1,228 career points. Flint Hill’s other starters have included seniors Tatum Carney and Lilian Mahdi, junior Lynette Doku and sophomore Ashley Giuliani.

Flint Hill is scheduled to host Potomac School at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, in the teams’ only meeting this season. The game will not count in their division standings.

Potomac School defeated Flint Hill twice last winter when both programs competed in the AA Division. Flint Hill had previously won five straight in the series after Potomac’s last victory during the 2019-20 season.
