The Flint Hill Huskies continued their recent surge with a 61-49 road victory over the Maret Frogs in Washington, improving to 7-4 overall and 3-0 in Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
The experienced Huskies have won five of their past six games, a run that includes a third-place finish at the Bull Holiday Invitational in Creedmoor, North Carolina.
Flint Hill seized a 6-0 lead against Maret and never trailed, at one point stretching its advantage to 20 points. The Frogs narrowed the deficit to 46-38 by the end of the third quarter, but the Huskies opened the final period with seven straight points to regain control.
Head coach Rico Reed said he expected Flint Hill to contend for the conference title this season.
Kobe Davis led the scoring with 18 points while adding six rebounds and three steals. Kendall Jones contributed nine points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals, while Everett Jones collected eight points, 12 rebounds and four assists.
Blake Fitzgerald finished with eight points and four rebounds. Dylan Fletcher scored seven points and made two steals, Caleb West recorded six points, five rebounds and five assists, and Ty Harris added two points, two rebounds and three assists.
At the Bull Holiday Invitational, Flint Hill went 2-1. The Huskies defeated Chapel Hill, 80-47, in the consolation game after beating Hillside of Durham, 83-76, and falling to Coolidge of Washington, 73-63.
The Huskies have played their past five games on the road, and their next five contests will also be away from home.
Oakton and Lake Braddock Go 2-1
The Oakton Cougars and Lake Braddock Bruins each posted 2-1 records at the Lake Braddock Holiday tournament.
Oakton improved to 6-4 and secured third place by defeating Jefferson of West Virginia, 54-45, in the consolation game. The Cougars edged Battlefield, 59-57, in the opening round before losing to Atlee, 69-52, in the semifinals.
Host Lake Braddock moved to 3-5 after dropping its opener to eventual champion Heritage, 51-49. The Bruins responded with a 66-35 victory over Lightridge and a 70-60 win against Battlefield.
Marshall and Madison Split Holiday Results
The Marshall Statesmen went 1-1 in holiday tournament play, bringing their record to 7-4. In Marshall’s victory, Shreyas Vaidya scored 24 points and sank six three-pointers. Anderson Krisko delivered 18 points and 14 rebounds, while Trey Lonardo added 11 points and five boards.
Madison also stands at 7-4 after going 1-2 in its holiday tournament. The Warhawks defeated Covenant Day School of Matthews, North Carolina, 54-37, behind Michael Dinkelacker’s 20 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Furlong contributed 16 points and six rebounds.
Madison lost its other two games by scores of 44-32 and 49-39 despite holding halftime leads in both. Mason Burger scored 17 points in one of those defeats.
