A packed release calendar is taking shape, with new albums from Ye, Charli XCX, Bruno Mars and Megan Moroney exploring everything from personal turmoil and gothic literature to romance and country heartbreak.
Ye: BULLY
After several delays, Ye’s 13-track album BULLY is scheduled for release Jan. 30. The project is expected to rank among his more experimental efforts, incorporating artificial intelligence into some vocal elements.
Ye has already released “PREACHER MAN,” “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST,” “DAMN,” “LAST BREATH” and “LOSING YOUR MIND.”
The songs delve into religion, controversy and emotional instability. “PREACHER MAN” presents Ye in a preacher-like role as he confronts spiritual vulnerability and his past. “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” contrasts his music with his troubled public reputation, while “DAMN” examines heartbreak and lingering emotions.
Spanish vocals and a theme of independence distinguish “LAST BREATH.” “LOSING YOUR MIND,” meanwhile, addresses Ye’s experiences with bipolar disorder and self-destructive behavior. Together, the tracks frame BULLY as an examination of his conscience and search for clarity.
Charli XCX: Wuthering Heights
Charli XCX plans to follow the Grammy-winning success of Brat with Wuthering Heights, a 14-track album arriving Feb. 13.
Inspired by Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel and an upcoming film adaptation, the project blends gothic elements with Charli XCX’s familiar synth-pop sound. Rather than contributing only one song to the movie, she created an entire album that reimagines the novel’s atmosphere.
Three tracks have been released: “House,” featuring John Cale, “Wall of Sound” and “Chains of Love.” Spoken-word elements give “House” an ominous mood, while “Wall of Sound” explores conflicting emotions and the sensation of becoming trapped in one’s thoughts.
“Chains of Love” appears closely tied to the story that inspired the album, pairing Charli XCX’s established style with a more dramatic melody. The project now faces the considerable expectations created by Brat.
Bruno Mars: The Romantic
Bruno Mars will return Feb. 27 with The Romantic, his fourth solo studio album. Drawing from the R&B sounds of the 1990s and early 2000s, the record will introduce a new chapter in his solo career.
Only one track, “I Just Might,” has been released so far. Its buoyant melody captures the rush of meeting someone and quickly imagining a romantic future, establishing an upbeat tone ahead of the full album.
Megan Moroney: Cloud 9
Megan Moroney’s third studio album, Cloud 9, is due Feb. 20. The 15-track country project reflects a period of renewed creativity and fulfillment for Moroney and includes collaborations with Kacey Musgraves and Ed Sheeran.
Three songs have arrived ahead of the album. “6 Months Later” revisits a breakup with an ex-boyfriend, while “Beautiful Things,” inspired by Moroney’s niece, delivers a message of confidence and self-worth to women.
“Wish I Didn’t” also draws from Moroney’s dating experiences, recounting a relationship with a man who already had a reputation as a red flag.
