Four recently released songs are earning high marks for pairing laid-back melodies with unexpected shifts in energy, making them strong additions to a spring playlist.
Sophomore Alex Robell recommends “Butterflies” by Brent Fayaiz for its catchy, relaxed sound.
“This song is so catchy and it’s great for any spring day because of how chill it is and how melodic it sounds,” Robell said.
Released Feb. 13, 2026, on Fayaiz’s latest album, “Icon,” the track combines R&B beats with melodic vocals and lyrics. A beat switch midway through moves the song from a slower tempo to a faster, more energetic pace without losing its smooth vocal style. The song earns a 9.7 out of 10.
Freshman Ganbold Imm chose Bruno Mars’ “Risk It All,” calling its soothing sound ideal for the season.
“This song is very relaxing and melodic which for me is perfect for a nice spring day,” Imm said.
The song arrived in early March 2026 as part of Mars’ latest rollout, “The Romantic.” Soft instrumentals and Mars’ soulful vocals create a calm, reflective track with an easy-flowing melody. It receives a 9.2 out of 10.
Sophomore Vanika Jivan recommends “Don’t Be Dumb/Trip Baby” for its dreamy R&B sound and dramatic beat switch.
“I really like the R&B part of this song and how dreamy it sounds, I also really like the beatswitch,” Jivan said.
Released in January 2026, the song emerged as a memorable track from ASAP Rocky’s new album, “Don’t Be Dumb.” Its atmospheric production and soft vocals give it a psychedelic, almost hypnotic quality. The beat switch transforms the song’s energy, balancing its calmer elements with a more dynamic turn. It earns a 9.4 out of 10.
Junior Morgan Preddy selected J. Cole’s “Bunce Road Blues,” particularly praising its production and Tems’ guest appearance.
“I really like the production on this song,” Preddy said. “The Tems feature is really soothing and fits very well with J Cole’s rapping.”
