Fairfax County library patrons will soon be able to choose from four new card designs featuring local artwork, including Virginia birds, reading companions and a colorful collage.

Fairfax County Public Library received more than 150 submissions during a design contest held from Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2025, to mark the introduction of its new logo. A committee of library and Fairfax Library Foundation staff selected four winners from a group of finalists.

The winning artists and designs are:

  • Alex of Fairfax Station, with a bear-and-cat design
  • Carolyn of Fairfax, depicting someone reading to a dog
  • Shawna of Burke, featuring birds native to Virginia
  • Neil of Fairfax, with a colorful illustrated collage

Each winner received a $500 prize from the Fairfax Library Foundation. They were also recognized during the Library Board of Trustees meeting held Dec. 10, 2025, at George Mason Regional Library.

The cards are scheduled to become available for public selection at the library system’s 23 branches in mid-January.
