Major construction is reshaping the intersection of Beulah Street and the Springfield-Franconia Parkway, where a consolidated government center is taking form across from the future Inova Franconia-Springfield Hospital.
The approximately 90,000-square-foot government facility is designed to improve parking and access while bringing several public services under one roof. It will house a 28,000-square-foot police station, the 4,200-square-foot office of Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk, the Franconia Museum and a 7,200-square-foot Active Adult Center.
Plans also include a childcare center serving infants through pre-kindergarten children. The Kingstowne Community Library will move from its lower-level shopping center location near Beulah Street and Telegraph Road and expand into a regional library.
The consolidated facility and its two parking garages carry an estimated cost of $79.5 million. Funding for the public-safety portions was approved through the 2015 Public Safety Bond Referendum, while voters authorized funding for the library and Active Adult Center in the 2020 Library Bond Referendum. The facility was scheduled to open in summer 2025.
New hospital rises across the intersection
Three large construction cranes now mark the site of the future Inova Franconia-Springfield Hospital, adding an unfamiliar presence to the local skyline and signaling the scale of the project.
Inova’s plans call for a full-service hospital with inpatient care, an outpatient center, room for expansion and a parking garage. A walkway will connect the new complex to the existing Inova HealthPlex.
The hospital site is bordered by Walker Lane, Beulah Street and the Franconia-Springfield Parkway. Construction was underway, with completion scheduled for 2028.
