The all-volunteer Great Falls Philharmonic will bring together more than 100 musicians for its most ambitious performance to date, joining the Voce Chamber Singers for two major choral-orchestral works in Reston on May 9.

The two-hour concert begins at 3 p.m. at Heritage Fellowship Church, 2501 Fox Mill Road. Led by conductor and artistic director Derek Maseloff and Voce director David Mann, the program will feature Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, culminating in “Ode to Joy.”

The orchestra debuted at a Great Falls church festival in 2023 and has since performed nearly a dozen more times. Its latest project extends its reach across northern Fairfax County and marks a significant step for the young ensemble.

“We basically are a three-person organization — myself and two board members — all donating our time to build this thing,” Maseloff said. “We’re putting on a season analogous to those of orchestras established for 60 years. We’re punching way above our weight.”

Maseloff is also completing infantry officer training at Fort Moore, formerly Fort Benning, in Georgia. Although he became a U.S. Army Band conductor in 2025, he said Army musicians attend the same training as other service members.

“There is a clear line between being an Army officer and being a conductor,” Maseloff said. “It is about getting people on the same page, giving clear instructions, inspiring people and being fundamentally about communication.”

Mann, who serves as director of music at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, said Voce welcomed the opportunity to collaborate.

“Voce Chamber Singers is honored to be joining forces with the outstanding Great Falls Philharmonic musicians to present these joyful and thrilling masterworks,” Mann said.

The venue offers parking and accessible entry. Tickets are $40 for adults and $10 for children.
