Northern Virginia faces a sweltering Friday, with temperatures near 95 degrees and a heat index potentially reaching 103. Showers and thunderstorms are 80% likely, mainly after 5 p.m., and some storms could become severe. Storms may continue until about 8 p.m., followed by an overnight low near 67.
Virginia lawmakers, meanwhile, questioned Dominion Energy leaders in Richmond this week about a proposed $67 billion all-stock merger with NextEra. The deal could shift management of half of Virginia’s energy operations outside the commonwealth. Fairfax Del. Rip Sullivan and Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell were among the Virginia Energy Commission members scrutinizing the acquisition.

Doña Mesa Tex Mex Kitchen opened Thursday at 106 Braddock Road, Suite C, in University Mall near George Mason University. The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a zoning special exception June 9 allowing a major expansion of the private school for elite student-athletes at the St. James sports complex in Springfield. The St. James Performance Academy will be permitted to enroll 660 students and add 110 employees.

Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn will hold a community town hall on the Reston Town Center North rezoning proposal Tuesday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the North County Governmental Center. The proposal is expected to advance to the Planning Commission in July.
A new public notice also announces that an establishment is seeking a restaurant alcoholic beverage control license. Any objections must be submitted within 30 days.
