Herndon Man Arrested After Alleged Abduction and Multistate Chase

A 25-year-old Herndon man faces multiple charges after an alleged abduction and carjacking led to a police pursuit through Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

A 25-year-old Herndon man faces multiple charges after an alleged abduction and carjacking led to a police pursuit through Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

Cristian Alvarenga was arrested near Elden Street and Alabama Drive after community members spotted him and contacted authorities, Herndon police said Tuesday morning.

The case began around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, when officers were dispatched to a reported domestic situation in the 1000 block of Knight Lane. Before police arrived, Alvarenga allegedly abducted someone he knew and fled the neighborhood in that person’s car.

Officers from several jurisdictions pursued the stolen vehicle across the region. Police said Alvarenga eventually abandoned both the car and its owner in Prince George’s County. The abducted person is safe.

Herndon police released Alvarenga’s photograph Monday and warned that he was considered armed and dangerous while authorities searched for him.

Alvarenga has been charged with abduction, assault, carjacking, driving without a valid license, preventing a call to 911 and two counts of robbery.
