Thousands of people gathered across Fairfax County on Saturday, June 14, for No Kings Day demonstrations opposing the Trump administration and its policies.
In Herndon’s historic downtown, an estimated 250 children and adults lined the streets carrying handmade signs. Passing drivers honked, while some passengers raised clenched fists in support.
The nationwide “Day of Defiance” was organized by a grassroots coalition of more than 200 groups, including Indivisible and the 50501 Movement. Organizers accused the administration of disregarding court rulings, violating civil rights, carrying out improper deportations and cutting public services.
Virginia Del. Irene Shin, a Democrat representing District 8, joined the Herndon protest. Shin is also seeking the Democratic nomination for the congressional seat held by Gerry Connolly.
“I could not be more proud to represent Herndon,” Shin said that evening. She said the turnout showed the community’s opposition to what she described as authoritarianism and disregard for the rule of law.
“It was a powerful reminder of the strength of our community when we, the people, come together to make our voices heard,” Shin said.
