Fairfax County firefighters responded to two incidents near Route 123 in Oakton during Wednesday afternoon’s rush hour. A two-vehicle crash in the eastbound I-66 Express Lanes sent one person to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
A construction van also caught fire in the westbound lanes. Both occupants escaped safely.
Tysons offices sell at steep discount
An affiliate of Rockwater Ventures and Buchanan Partners purchased the American Center office complex at 8300 and 8330 Boone Boulevard for $15.25 million in December.
The two-building property previously sold for $68.5 million in 2016 and $120 million in 2007. With only 30% of the space leased, Rockwater owner Jack Kelly said at least one building will likely be repositioned or redeveloped.
Lawmakers seek marijuana-market compromise
Virginia lawmakers are considering whether state budget language could establish a legal recreational marijuana market.
At a commission meeting Tuesday, June 2, state Sen. Lashrecse Aird and Del. Paul Krizek voiced hope for a compromise after Gov. Abigail Spanberger vetoed legislation that would have allowed retail sales to begin Jan. 1, 2027.
McLean business owner conquers Everest
McLean business owner Frank Fumich has reached the summit of Mount Everest, adding the feat to a record that includes more than 150 marathons, a trip to the South Pole and a bicycle ride across the United States.
Fumich’s path toward Everest began roughly 22 years ago, when he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and started working toward reaching the world’s tallest peak.
Virginia prepares for hurricane season
State officials are urging Virginians to prepare for flooding, damaging winds, tornadoes and extended power outages during the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
The season began June 1 and continues through Nov. 30. Virginia’s greatest risk typically comes from late summer through early fall.
Karaoke venue coming to Annandale
NRB Karaoke is expected to open in June at 4316 Markham Street in Annandale.
The venue will feature seven karaoke rooms, each accommodating four or five guests, along with fusion Korean snacks and finger foods.
Virginia takes top spot for income
Virginia ranked first in WalletHub’s 2026 list of states with the highest incomes.
The analysis considered the average annual income of the wealthiest 5% of residents, median household income and the average annual income of the bottom 20%. Figures were adjusted for the cost of living.
Paws on the Plaza returns Saturday
Paws on the Plaza will return to PenFed Plaza at Tysons Corner Center on Saturday, June 6.
The pet-friendly gathering will offer activities, vendors and interactive experiences for pet owners, dog lovers and other community members.
