A person was killed on Interstate 95 in Fairfax County early Wednesday after an argument following an initial crash spilled into the highway’s travel lanes.
Occupants of two vehicles had exited after a collision before 2 a.m. and were involved in an altercation when one person stepped into another lane. A southbound Mercedes-Benz SUV struck the person, according to Virginia State Police.
In Reston, police arrested a 22-year-old Herndon man accused of repeatedly stealing from the Sephora at Reston Town Center during December and January. He faces eight counts of petit larceny and a charge of possessing Schedule I or II narcotics. He was held on a $5,000 bond.
The Potomac River, meanwhile, absorbed another sewage spill Sunday, Feb. 8. About 600,000 gallons entered the river after a massive clog of non-disposable wipes caused the latest release. It followed an earlier spill that prompted DC Water to pump contaminated water and divert it into the C&O Canal.
Interest in skating is surging at SkateQuest in Reston as local figure skater Ilia Malinin finds success leading up to and during the Milan Cortina Olympics. The facility, where Malinin trains, expects its next learn-to-skate class to enroll 800 students, compared with 550 during the same period in 2025.

Metro work will complicate some trips to Reagan National Airport this weekend. Crystal City station will close from Saturday, Feb. 14, through Monday, Feb. 16, marking the first of 10 planned weekend closures through June. Travelers heading south toward the airport should allow additional time.
Rebecca Campana became the Reston Community Center’s arts education director on Jan. 14. Campana, who grew up in a large family of teachers and developed an early love of the arts, succeeds Cheri Danaher following Danaher’s retirement after 35 years at the center.
