Federal immigration agents arrested six men outside Fairmont Gardens in Annandale on Wednesday morning. The men, who had been waiting for jobs, were seen walking along Little River Turnpike in handcuffs. One was released after authorities confirmed that he had a work permit, according to Nayely Lopez of FACETS.
A driver was killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on the southbound Interstate 95 Express Lanes near mile marker 151 in Prince William County. Virginia State Police said the wreck occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. and caused delays stretching from Dumfries to Lorton. The driver of a Lexus died at the scene, while a passenger was taken to a hospital.
Sixteen of Virginia’s 31 Federally Qualified Health Centers remain unable to access federal grant funding used to pay employees. The disruption has forced some centers to suspend services and others to close branches, despite a judge’s decision last week to pause the Trump administration’s funding freeze.
Fairfax County police have charged a Chantilly man with burglary, destruction of property and petit larceny in connection with two incidents from late January 2024. He is accused of stealing from a church donation box and burglarizing a school.
Police are also searching for an Ohio man suspected of involvement in catalytic converter thefts in Woodlawn on Jan. 5. A witness reported seeing two men carrying tools and trying to enter vehicles. Officers later found several catalytic converters, tools and the suspects’ vehicle nearby.
The Navy Federal Credit Union at 6343 Columbia Pike in Lincolnia was robbed shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Police said the suspect entered the Barcroft Plaza branch and demanded money without displaying a weapon. No injuries were reported.
Falls Church officials are holding off on deer-culling measures. During a Feb. 3 work session, the city’s animal control officer said deer complaints have been limited, while City Council members favored continued monitoring of the local population.
Along Richmond Highway, the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation is considering additional murals to improve the appearance of the corridor as buildings are demolished ahead of bus rapid transit construction.
Rain was expected mainly before 1 p.m. Thursday, with a high near 49 degrees and a 90% chance of precipitation. Rainfall totals could reach between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch. Thursday night was forecast to be mostly cloudy, with a low around 40.
