About a dozen U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers were seen in Dulles International Airport’s main terminal late Tuesday morning, accompanied nearby by roughly two dozen Department of Homeland Security police officers. Several were carrying long guns.
Despite hours-long security lines at some airports as TSA employees work without pay, operations have remained mostly normal at Dulles and Reagan National Airport.
Fairfax High School student faces more charges
Fairfax City police obtained four additional assault charges Wednesday against an 18-year-old Fairfax High School student after more alleged victims came forward.
The student, arrested March 7, now faces 13 charges stemming from accusations that he assaulted multiple female juvenile victims at the school.
FCPS cancels two early-release days
Fairfax County Public Schools will close April 21 to accommodate the special election on the redistricting referendum. The date will instead become a development day for teachers and staff.
Superintendent Michelle Reid said April 22 and April 29, previously scheduled as early-release days for elementary students, will now be full school days.
Statewide school AI guidance awaits governor
The Virginia General Assembly overwhelmingly approved legislation directing the state Department of Education to give local school divisions guidance on the safe, ethical and equitable use of artificial intelligence systems.
The bills are awaiting action from Gov. Abigail Spanberger as Fairfax County Public Schools develops its own AI policy.
McKay sets a high bar for Tysons casino revenue
Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay said a different revenue-sharing agreement with Virginia could make him reconsider the proposed Tysons casino measure.
McKay said at least 70% of gaming tax revenue would need to remain with the local government to justify the community impacts. However, he doubts the General Assembly has much interest in changing the current arrangement, which favors the state.
Aging facilities strain proposed county budget
Fairfax County officials outlined a proposed fiscal 2027 budget Monday evening that must contend with major capital requirements, multimillion-dollar school funding shortfalls and the mounting cost of maintaining aging infrastructure.
County officials are also seeking feedback from local employers through the Spring 2026 Business Survey. The confidential survey, intended to identify current trends, challenges and opportunities affecting businesses, will remain open through April 17.
Warm Thursday brings a chance of rain overnight
