Koe Wetzel is pushing beyond his trademark rowdy sound as he prepares to release The Night Champion on June 12.

The upcoming album follows his successful 2024 project, 9 Lives, while adding a more introspective layer to his rock-driven country music. On May 8, Wetzel offered fans a surprise preview by releasing four songs from the record.

“Hurts Like You” pairs rock-inspired production with Wetzel’s deep vocals, creating a sound that is energetic but emotionally exposed. The track suggests he is willing to move beyond his rule-breaking persona, confront his past and embrace greater vulnerability.

“Dollar and a Bottle,” produced by Gabe Simon and featuring Nikki Lane, takes a more midtempo, jukebox-ready approach. It retains the familiar sound associated with Wetzel while introducing a more polished finish that reflects his development as a songwriter and performer.

Wetzel also released “Time Goes On” earlier in the year. The personal song looks back at the major moments of his career, from playing for beer to headlining sold-out arenas. Over a catchy rhythm and heavy chorus, he acknowledges mistakes, lost relationships and the relentless speed of life.

“Surrounded” has also attracted attention with its intense, infectious energy, showing that Wetzel has not abandoned the forceful style that helped build his audience.

The previews point toward an album balancing reflection with the unruly energy of Wetzel’s earlier work. He is supporting the new music with a world tour covering more than 50 locations across the globe.
