Lake Braddock secured second place at the 10-team Highlander Duals behind undefeated performances from Ethan Bluesteen and Matthew Dani and four more wrestlers who finished 4-1.
The Bruins went 4-1 during the Jan. 18 competition at McLean High School. Their only loss came against Prince William County’s Battlefield Bobcats, who defeated Lake Braddock 57-18 and captured first place with a 5-0 record.
Hayfield placed fourth at 3-2, followed by host McLean in fifth with the same record. Madison finished seventh at 2-3, and Westfield took eighth at 1-4.
Bluesteen went 5-0 at 138 pounds with three pins, a technical fall and a forfeit. Dani also finished 5-0 at 175, earning three pins and two forfeits.
Conner Rafferty at 113, Camryn Miketta at 150, Bradley Cherry at 157 and Josiah Bolme at 285 each posted 4-1 records. Rafferty recorded two pins, Miketta and Cherry had four apiece, and Bolme collected three.
Four Bruins finished 3-2: William Eastin at 126, Dylan Abeyta at 132, Jack Podsednik at 165 and Mason Bell at 215. Charles Rubino at 106 and Liam Edminster at 144 won two matches each, while John Dempsey at 120 and Ian Kown at 190 each earned one victory.
Hayfield received unbeaten performances from Brendan Maglathlin at 120, Danneil Marshall at 132 and Ethan Osburn at 190. Osburn pinned all five of his opponents. Cristian Rojas went 4-1 with four pins at 106, while Anthony Gomez also finished 4-1 at 157.
McLean’s Nathaniel Thaler went 5-0 with three pins at 165. Sarah Romero, competing at 106 and 113, joined Tavian Melvin at 120 and Jasper Williams at 144 with 4-1 records. Spencer May-Stoffel finished 3-1 at 285, and Jacob Lee went 2-0 at 190.
Madison had two undefeated wrestlers: Aidan Martinez at 126 and Conrad Krauskopf at 157 and 165. Luke Salvosa added a 4-1 performance with four pins at 190.
Westfield’s Ian Gleasman went 5-0 with five pins while competing at 144 and 150. Hyun Sin finished 4-1 at 175, while Joe Regalbuto and Kenny Padilla each went 3-1 across two weight classes.
Mount Vernon’s Fainde Nhantumbo at 138 and Jayden Rivera at 144 each finished 3-0.
