Langley’s indoor track and field team closed the 2025-2026 season with a third-place district finish, state qualifiers and a regional relay victory that ended a two-decade drought.

The boys’ 4x800-meter relay captured its first regional title since 2005 and advanced to the state meet, coach Patrick Ferguson said. The result highlighted a season shaped by teamwork, steady training and individual progress.

“Teamwork is especially important because we all push each other to do our best,” junior Gavin Silva said.

Silva also reached several personal milestones, growing stronger while qualifying for both district and state competition.

“This season I’ve definitely gotten stronger, and I qualified for districts and states, which is a big accomplishment of mine,” Silva said.

As the championship meets approached, Ferguson reduced the intensity of practices so athletes could recover and enter the postseason feeling stronger.

Injuries created another challenge. Freshman Abby Pickard said she continued working out on weekends and maintained an abdominal routine to strengthen her core while recovering.

“Being injured has definitely put me a lot farther down running wise, but it’s put me into that mindset that I will come back stronger, and keep working at what I love,” Pickard said.

Ferguson said the season’s importance extended beyond medals and qualifying marks. Athletes experimented with events they had not previously attempted, learned more about competing and developed stronger relationships with the coaching staff.

“They became more disciplined and focused on their goals as the season progressed,” Ferguson said.
