A Leesburg man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter nearly three months after a head-on crash killed 33-year-old Michelle Davis of Lorton.
The crash occurred at 5:14 p.m. April 23 near Ox Road and Davis Drive in Lorton. Fairfax County police detectives determined that Steven Kowalik, 64, was driving a 2012 Ford F-350 north on Ox Road while towing a fishing boat.
Kowalik lost consciousness behind the wheel, crossed the grass median and struck Davis’ 2017 Chevrolet Cruze head-on near Davis Drive, according to investigators.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Kowalik was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Police said April 24 that alcohol did not initially appear to have contributed to the crash. Investigators are still examining whether speed was a factor.
Kowalik surrendered to authorities July 11 and was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He was later released on a $7,500 bond.
