Volunteer groups supporting Fairfax County’s public libraries donated more than $369,660 and contributed 37,297 hours of service during fiscal year 2025.
The figures were highlighted ahead of National Friends of the Library Week, observed Oct. 19-25, 2025. Friends groups support individual branches and the wider library system by promoting activities, assisting with community programs and raising money.
Many groups organize used-book sales and return the proceeds to the library. Their contributions help purchase books and equipment while funding programs and exhibits beyond the operating budget.
The county’s participating organizations include:

Volunteers honored for outstanding service
The Library Board of Trustees and community members gathered at Chantilly Regional Library on Wednesday, Oct. 8, for the 2025 Friends’ Choice Awards. The event recognized Friends group members nominated by their peers for exceptional service.
This year’s honorees were:

Residents can support a Friends group through membership, volunteer involvement or donations of used books for future sales.
