Lidl is scheduled to open a grocery store at Idylwood Plaza on Aug. 12, filling part of the former Whole Foods Market storefront on Leesburg Pike.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 7:40 a.m. at the 23,485-square-foot store, located at 7511 Leesburg Pike. After opening day, its regular hours are scheduled to be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

The opening will come earlier than Federal Realty had previously anticipated. The property owner had expected the Lidl store to open in late 2026.

Lidl announced the opening date on July 29. The company said customers at the grand opening would be offered complimentary croissants and coffee, along with access to exclusive deals. Those offers remain plans announced by the company ahead of the event.

The Idylwood Plaza store is set to become Lidl’s 12th location in Fairfax County. The grocer has also recently added stores in Herndon, Centreville and Tysons.

A Lidl US spokesperson said accessibility and the capacity to accommodate customers are considerations when the company evaluates potential stores.

“When selecting locations for our new stores, we look for convenient, accessible locations that can support high traffic volume daily,” the spokesperson said.

Whole Foods vacated the Idylwood Plaza space in February 2025 after relocating to Falls Church City. The former grocery storefront has since been divided for four incoming tenants: Lidl, South Block, Potbelly and Qdoba Mexican Eats.

No specific opening dates were provided for South Block, Potbelly or Qdoba. Federal Realty’s site plan also showed that a separate 1,181-square-foot space at the shopping center remained available for lease.

Lidl established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington in June 2015. The Idylwood Plaza opening continues the company’s expansion in Fairfax County and follows its more recent store additions elsewhere in the county.
