Christmas stockings aren’t just for people. Several shops along Langston Boulevard offer seasonal treats and toys for dogs, cats and backyard birds.
Woof Gang Bakery & Grooming, located at 4550 Langston Blvd., carries holiday dog treats including reindeer cookies and Merry Woofmas bones. Ingredients include wheat flour, applesauce, sugar, vegetable oil, honey, cinnamon, dried yogurt and oats.
The store also offers stuffed dog toys shaped like familiar snacks, including a Dr. Popper soda can, a Pup Tart and a yellow Mr. Goodboy candy bar. Other choices include pandas, bright pink flamingos, fish, spotted giraffes and gray koalas.
At Unleashed by Petco, 5400 Langston Blvd. A, Joey McGeary said Churu liquid treats are the most popular cat treats among the store’s aisle of options. During the summer, some customers freeze the tubes to make cat-sized popsicles.
The store also carries several kinds of catnip that can be placed inside toys or sprinkled on scratching surfaces. McGeary said it can steer cats toward scratchers instead of people while helping them release energy.
For bird lovers, Wild Birds Unlimited offers a compact finch feeder that can fit inside a stocking. It can later be filled with niger thistle and hung in the backyard. The store has operated in Harrison Shopping Mall for nearly 35 years.
