Luke Combs returns to the high-energy sound that helped make him one of country music’s biggest stars on The Way I Am, a sprawling 22-song album built for everything from car speakers to sold-out stadiums.
Running 73 minutes, the project marks a shift from Fathers and Sons, which leaned into intimate songwriting and acoustic arrangements. This time, Combs mixes upbeat party anthems with the heartfelt, emotionally direct tracks longtime fans have come to expect.
Working with producers Jonathan Singleton and Chip Matthews, Combs delivers a stadium-ready collection without abandoning the storytelling at the center of his music.
“Back in the Saddle” opens the album with a burst of energy and a message of resilience, presenting Combs as an artist returning stronger than before. “My Kinda Saturday Night” celebrates the uncomplicated pleasure of spending an evening with friends, while “Days Like These” focuses on easily overlooked joys such as blue skies and time with loved ones.
The album also makes room for quieter emotions. “Sleepless in a Hotel Room” and “Seeing Someone” stand out for their raw feeling, balancing broadly relatable experiences with the small details that strengthen Combs’ storytelling.
“I Ain’t No Cowboy” has also drawn attention. Co-written by fellow country star Cody Johnson while the two were touring in Australia, the song explores identity as Combs acknowledges that he may not be a traditional cowboy but still shares the heart and spirit associated with one. Its mixture of introspection and humor captures part of the appeal that has helped him build an international audience.
Combs is supporting the album while continuing his “My Kinda Saturday Night World Tour,” showing little sign of easing his pace. The Way I Am builds on his earlier success while exploring different themes and melodies within modern country music.
The result is an ambitious country album that works equally well on the road or in a packed arena. With its energetic highs, emotional range and memorable storytelling, The Way I Am earns an exceptional 9.7 out of 10.
