After two seasons without seeing game action, Madison High School graduate Alex Jreige returned to the football field and made an immediate impact for the University at Albany.

The 5-foot-8, 210-pound sophomore running back appeared in seven games during his first season with the Division I Great Danes. He finished with 191 rushing yards and one touchdown on 37 carries while adding two receptions for seven yards.

Jreige delivered his biggest performance in Albany’s regular-season finale against Hampton. He rushed 21 times for 110 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown down the right side that tied the game at 34 in the fourth quarter.

He later broke off a 13-yard run and added several short gains as Albany drained the clock and secured a 41-34 victory.

Jreige also played a significant role against Rhode Island, gaining 63 yards on 13 carries and catching two passes. His six-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter helped the Great Danes take a 10-0 lead, though Rhode Island eventually rallied for a 20-17 win.

The 2024 season was Jreige’s first at Albany after transferring from Old Dominion University in Virginia. He spent two seasons with the Old Dominion program but did not appear in a game.

At Madison, Jreige rushed for 1,703 yards and 30 touchdowns during a standout senior season. He helped the Warhawks win Concorde District and 6D North Region championships before finishing second in the Virginia High School League Class 6 state tournament.

Jreige accumulated more than 3,600 rushing yards during his high school career. He also played varsity baseball at Madison and helped the Warhawks capture a state championship in 2021.
