A large fire tore through a three-story home in Vienna early Thursday, sending one person to the hospital and prompting a response from more than two dozen emergency units.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department crews were dispatched to the 300 block of Blair Street NW at 1:15 a.m. after multiple callers reported flames at the back of the house. The homeowner told dispatchers that everyone had escaped except a dog.

Firefighters encountered heavy flames when they arrived. The fire spread into the attic and eventually burned through part of the roof.

Crews from the City of Fairfax Fire Department joined the effort to extinguish the blaze and confirm that all occupants were out. Firefighters removed the dog, and medics were called to assist the animal. Its condition was not immediately disclosed.

One person was taken to a hospital. No firefighters were reported injured.

The fire was brought under control, and investigators remained at the scene to determine what caused it.
