More than 100 people registered to run and walk through McLean in support of the band programs at Langley High School and Cooper Middle School.
The annual Bands on the Run 5K began at 8 a.m. Sunday, April 26, with a course that started and finished at Langley High School and passed through the Langley Oaks neighborhood.
Participants ranged from competitive runners pursuing personal records to families and friends enjoying the route at a more relaxed pace.
Held each spring since 2020, the joint fundraiser helps the schools provide music education, purchase instruments and cover competition and travel expenses. It also supports additional opportunities for student musicians.
Local running shop PR Running organized registration, timing, race bib distribution and course setup.
Sponsor booths, refreshments and music from a live DJ added to the morning’s festivities. After crossing the finish line, participants stayed to celebrate and connect, turning the fundraiser into a broader community gathering centered on music and active living.
