McLean girls tennis delivered a dominant performance Tuesday, defeating district opponent Yorktown 9-0 and improving to 3-0 on the season.
The Highlanders established control in singles, remaining composed through several close games and refusing to surrender momentum. Steady rallies, smart shot selection and timely finishes helped McLean capture all six matches.
Consistency on serve and return also gave the Highlanders an advantage. Players landed a high percentage of first serves and attacked Yorktown’s second serves, allowing McLean to dictate points early.
“Our doubles team is starting to come together and the singles team looks good,” head coach Mackenzie Rankin said. “We are starting the season off 3-0.”
McLean carried that momentum into doubles, where improved communication and court coverage helped secure all three matches and complete the shutout.
“We came in focused and ready,” sophomore Roxanna Sharafi said. “Everyone trusted each other and did their part.”
The sweep demonstrated McLean’s depth across the lineup and continued growth in doubles. The team appeared more connected than it had in earlier matches, with every player contributing against a strong district opponent.
“I think we really excel when the whole team just perseveres,” Sharafi said. “The team bond is becoming stronger every day and it’s showing.”
