Senior Aaron Jia capped his Liberty District career with another championship, winning two individual races and contributing to a relay victory as the McLean Highlanders claimed their first boys swimming and diving district title since 2022.

McLean scored 488 points to finish first at the meet Saturday, Feb. 1. Jia’s high school career now includes district championships at both ends: He also helped the Highlanders win as a freshman in 2022, when he placed third in two events.

This time, Jia won the individual medley in 1:50.84 and the 500-yard freestyle in 4:35.52. He joined Bruno Haggard, Allen Wang and another teammate on McLean’s victorious 400 freestyle relay, which finished in 3:09.55.

Haggard delivered two more individual victories, taking the 200 freestyle in 1:40.48 and the 100 butterfly in 50.55. Wang won the 100 freestyle in 47.49 and placed second in the 50 freestyle.

McLean collected points throughout the lineup. Sarp Dilber finished second in the 500 freestyle and fifth in the 200 freestyle, while Harrison Weinstock took third in the butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle.

Henry Williams placed fourth in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the individual medley. Zach Sutanto was fourth in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 100 breaststroke.

Kyle Koay, Jeremy Lees, Elvis Quintero, Connor Barlotta, Nolan Bartkowski, Andrew Lowman, Trevor Epperson, Landon Frank, Daniel Kim, Pranav Budharaju and Cameron Parkhomenko also earned top-16 finishes.

The Highlanders placed second in both the medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. In diving, Jackson Thomas finished fourth and Trent Hooton placed 10th.

Jia also helped the Kent Gardens Dolphins capture the Northern Virginia Swimming League Division 3 championship last summer.
