McLean Little League will open its 70th anniversary season Saturday, April 5, with a parade, special guests, games and a vote to select the organization’s first mascot.
The traditional parade will begin at 9 a.m., traveling from McLean High School to the league’s three-field complex at 1836 Westmoreland Street.
League official Autumn Price said organizers expect an exciting day, beginning with a fun morning parade.
An opening program and special events will start at 9:30 a.m. Screech, the Washington Nationals mascot, is scheduled to join the celebration.
Baseball and softball players from nearby high schools will be recognized before Little League games get underway. Families can also cast ballots for the league’s inaugural mascot, while gifts and prizes will be distributed throughout the event.
Mama’s Donut Bites and Sugusto Sandwich & Coffee will have food trucks on site.
Parking will be available at McLean High School and the Kent Gardens Recreation Club pool, located just south of the baseball complex.
The anniversary festivities follow a family-night gala held Friday, March 14, on field No. 2 at the Westmoreland Street complex. The activity-filled event raised money toward the $2 million needed to modernize a field at Lewinsville Park, which supplements the league’s three Westmoreland Street fields.
