The McLean High School girls tennis team remained undefeated Tuesday with an 8-1 victory over Marshall, improving to 13-0 and strengthening its hold on first place in the district standings.

McLean took control early and maintained its advantage with steady performances throughout the singles and doubles lineup. The Highlanders limited errors, stayed composed during long rallies and prevented Marshall from gaining momentum.

“We’ve been really locked in at practice, and it’s showing in matches,” sophomore Jessica Li said. “Everyone knows their role, and we push each other to stay consistent.”

That discipline proved valuable in the closer matches. Instead of forcing difficult shots, McLean’s players remained patient and relied on careful shot selection to secure points.

“We trust each other a lot more this season,” sophomore Roxanna Sharafi said. “Even when matches get tight, we stay calm because we know someone else is going to step up.”

The Highlanders have one regular-season match remaining against rival Langley before district and regional competition begins. The matchup will give McLean a final test as the team prepares for the postseason.

“Going undefeated is great, but we want to carry this into districts and regionals,” Li said. “Our goal is to make a deep run and compete for a title.”

McLean also hopes to avenge last season’s loss to out-of-district rival Oakton, which ended the Highlanders’ pursuit of a state championship.

Now, McLean is trying to turn its depth, discipline and growing confidence into a postseason run.

“Every match from here on out matters more, and we want to be playing our best tennis at the end of the season,” Li said.
