Fairfax County Public Schools has appointed Megan Vroman as its new chief of schools, elevating the current Region 2 assistant superintendent to a critical executive leadership position.
Vroman began her career as a special education teacher and later became a founding principal in District of Columbia Public Schools. She received a district award for outstanding principal leadership and oversaw measurable improvements on state accountability standards. One middle school under her leadership earned the highest possible rating.
As head of FCPS Region 2, Vroman helped produce the division’s largest regional increase in eighth-grade access to Algebra 1. She also introduced a region-wide strategy for multilingual learners.
Region 2 subsequently led FCPS in English-language acquisition growth, with multilingual learners at both the elementary and secondary levels exceeding districtwide growth.
Vroman has also focused on preparing other administrators through individual mentoring and her leadership of the FCPS Aspiring Principals Academy. Her approach emphasizes evidence-based practices, strong relationships and the development of school leaders equipped to serve students and communities across Fairfax County.
