Metro riders face major service changes Saturday through Monday as track work disrupts the Blue, Orange and Silver lines. Monday’s operating hours will also be adjusted for Presidents’ Day.
The Blue Line will run only between Franconia-Springfield and Greenbelt. Orange and Silver line service will be divided into separate segments, with shuttle buses replacing trains between Foggy Bottom, the Pentagon and Clarendon.
Federal workers have begun receiving layoff notices as the Trump administration moves to substantially reduce the government workforce. The initial cuts appeared to focus on recently hired employees who remain on probationary status, though the total number of layoffs was not yet clear.
In Falls Church, demolition is underway at the vacant Stratford Motor Lodge at 300 W. Broad Street. Local business owner Arash Tafakor plans to redevelop the property into Stratford Gardens, a restaurant and beer garden.
Virginia’s seasonal burning restrictions take effect Saturday, Feb. 15, and continue through April 30. Outdoor burning is prohibited between midnight and 4 p.m. Violations are Class 3 misdemeanors carrying fines of up to $500.
Joann plans to close about 500 stores nationwide, including 13 in Virginia and five in Northern Virginia. Going-out-of-business sales at affected locations, including stores at Fairfax Towne Center and Seven Corners, are expected to begin Saturday.
Fairfax County transportation officials will hold two virtual meetings Wednesday, Feb. 19, about proposed Fairfax Connector route adjustments and realignments. A lunchtime session begins at noon, followed by an evening meeting at 7 p.m.
Vienna-based software testing startup Antithesis Operations LLC has raised $30 million. Founded by two former Apple engineers in 2018, the company develops tools that detect bugs in computer code and hopes to double its workforce to about 140 employees over the next year. Much of that growth is expected in marketing and product development at its recently opened San Francisco office.
A seven-bedroom Potomac River mansion at 1260 Crest Lane in McLean has gone under contract with contingencies. The property was listed for $15.5 million, with its land potentially helping attract the buyer.
Friday’s forecast calls for sunshine and a high near 38 degrees. Northwest winds of 8 to 13 mph could gust as high as 21 mph. Clouds will increase overnight as temperatures fall to around 27 degrees.
