Merrifield’s Mosaic District is expanding its retail and dining lineup, with Herman Miller now open and five additional businesses expected to arrive in the coming months.

District Candle Lab and Boll & Branch are slated to open this spring. District Candle Lab, a Washington, D.C.-based custom candle business, lets customers explore a wall of scents and work with a “candle tender” to create their own candle.

The shop will replace Lou Lou Boutique at 2910 District Avenue, Suite 130. The accessories store closed at the end of 2024.

Boll & Branch will open its first standalone Virginia location at 2921 District Avenue, Suite 110. The luxury home textiles retailer will offer sheets, bedding, pillows and other products.

Two new food businesses are expected this summer. The Salty, a growing doughnut chain with nearly a dozen locations nationwide, will move into the former Loyal Companion pet store at 2905 District Avenue, Suite 108. Its menu will include distinctive doughnut flavors and “cragles,” a croissant-bagel hybrid.

French-inspired cafe chain Maman is taking over the former Oath Pizza space at 2920 District Avenue, Suite 150. The New York-based business plans to serve coffee, pastries and other cafe offerings.

ZAKAA Couture is also preparing to open soon. The bridal store will occupy the former Sophie Blake jewelry shop at 2910 District Avenue, Suite 150.

The additions follow two earlier arrivals this year: HiFi Tex-Mex BBQ at 8298 Glass Alley and Herman Miller at 2921 District Avenue, Suite 120.
