Mount Vernon District residents will get their first look at the new name, logo and identity of the Original Mount Vernon High School during the community’s 38th annual town meeting on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon High School, 8515 Old Mount Vernon Road. Residents can attend in person or watch on Channel 16 or the Facebook page @SupervisorDanStorck.

The meeting will begin with a tribute to Gerry Hyland, who established the annual gathering in 1988 while serving as Mount Vernon District supervisor. The recognition will honor his decades of public service and lasting influence on the community.

From 8:30 to 10 a.m., an exhibit hall will bring together Fairfax County agencies and local service providers. The Park Authority will conduct on-site interviews ahead of the anticipated reopening of the Mount Vernon Rec Center.

The KidBiz Young Entrepreneurs Expo will feature young business owners selling homemade products and treats. The Mount Vernon High School Chamber String Quartet will also perform.

The main program, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will include special recognitions and a virtual aerial tour highlighting completed, active and planned projects across the district.

Question-and-answer panels will feature U.S. Reps. Don Beyer and Gerry Connolly, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeffrey C. McKay, County Executive Bryan Hill and Mount Vernon District School Board member Mateo Dunne. Discussions will cover the county budget, schools and other local issues.

The gathering will also spotlight district accomplishments from the previous year and priorities for 2025.
