Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles will return to his hometown on Nov. 12 to become the youngest person inducted as a Living Legend of Alexandria.
Lyles, an Alexandria City High School graduate known as the “fastest man alive,” is one of 12 members of the organization’s Class of 2025. The ceremony will recognize residents who have made extraordinary contributions to Alexandria.
“Noah is a graduate of our high school, and this is the place he calls his hometown,” Living Legends board President Mary Wadland said. She credited his international achievements, community spirit and foundation work benefiting local children.
The other honorees are Mary Lee Anderson, Ana Bonilla-Galdamez, Gerald File, Charlotte Hall, Iburia Hall-Haynes, David Mercer, Robyn Nichols, Patrick O’Brien, Kitty Porterfield, Gerald Wanzer and Adrienne Terrell Washington.
Now in its 16th year, the Meet the Legends reception celebrates contributions spanning the arts, education, public service and volunteer leadership.
Wadland said Lyles’ success demonstrates what young people can accomplish when they pursue their ambitions and later help others in their community.
The reception begins at 6 p.m. Nov. 12 at the George Washington National Masonic Memorial.
