Northern Virginia Orthodontics operates six locations across the DMV and says it has completed more than 35,000 smile transformations, including over 30,000 Invisalign treatments ranging from mild to complex cases.
Reston native Dr. Zachary Casagrande founded the practice in 2008 and later expanded it to Arlington, McLean, Reston, Gainesville and two Ashburn locations in Brambleton and One Loudoun.
The clinical team includes Dr. Casagrande, Dr. Elvi Barcoma, Dr. Danielle Robb, Dr. Jessica Itani, Dr. Sonny Song, Dr. Kianoush Tari and Dr. Samaneh Mojarrad. Together, the orthodontists have more than 90 years of combined experience treating children and adults.
Casagrande has worked on complex cases requiring corrective jaw surgery and previously served on the VCU Craniofacial/Facial Reconstruction Team. Barcoma has published two papers in The Angle Orthodontist and is working on a third.
The practice offers braces and Invisalign, including Invisalign First for children as young as 6. Its Smile Express program, created by Casagrande, is designed for adults with mild crowding or spacing and can sometimes be completed in less than six months with two office visits and optional nighttime-only aligner use.
Patients can also submit weekly photographs through the Smile Doctors Anywhere smartphone platform. The technology allows orthodontists to monitor progress remotely and provide feedback or new instructions. Office hours extend from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with Saturday availability and virtual monitoring intended to reduce in-person appointments.
Northern Virginia Orthodontics has received top-orthodontist recognition from Washingtonian, Northern Virginia Magazine and Arlington Magazine. Virginia Living’s 2023 “Best of Virginia” edition ranked it the top orthodontic practice in Northern Virginia, while Washingtonian named it among the region’s top workplaces. The practice also serves as the Washington Capitals’ official team orthodontist.
Its community work is organized partly through the NVO Foundation, a nonprofit established in 2017 to address local needs and support efforts against pediatric cancer. The foundation has donated more than $1.6 million to local cancer-related causes. At the Cup for a Cure Starbucks Café inside the Brambleton office, the practice contributes $1 to the foundation for every drink served.
Barcoma has volunteered with the Virginia Mission of Mercy Project, Miles for Smiles 5K, Richmond Special Olympics, American Cancer Association and American Heart Association. Casagrande has supported organizations including So Others Might Eat, the American Red Cross, American Cancer Society and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
The six offices are located at 2200 Clarendon Boulevard in Arlington; 6639-A Old Dominion Drive in McLean; 12110 Sunset Hills Road in Reston; 22855 Brambleton Plaza and 20428 Exchange Street in Ashburn; and 7360 Atlas Walk Way in Gainesville.
