A traveling library exhibit marks the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act by highlighting four Northern Virginia activists who helped advance equal voting rights.
“From Barriers to Ballots: The Fight for Equal Voting Rights in Virginia” tells the stories of Gertrude Lynde Crocker, Portia A. Haskins, John Robinson and Annie E. Harper, a resident of Gum Springs.
Fairfax County Public Library partnered with Arlington Public Library and other community organizations to present the exhibition at select branches.
The exhibit is open during regular hours at Sherwood Regional Library from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31. It then moves to the City of Fairfax Regional Library, where it will run from Sept. 1 through Nov. 4.
Visitors can also participate in an interactive feature by answering the question, “What does voting mean to you?”
