Senior Services of Alexandria raised more than $41,000 during its 14th annual Oktoberfest fundraiser Oct. 8 at Port City Brewing Company.

More than 150 guests attended the celebration, which featured lederhosen, traditional dirndls and Bavarian folk music. Executive director Mary Lee Anderson said the event attracted more sponsors than ever, with Atlantic Union Bank serving as the “Edelweiss” presenting sponsor.

The proceeds will support programs for Alexandria’s older adults, including Meals on Wheels, Groceries to Go, Friendly Visitors and Callers, and Senior Ambassadors.

Guests sampled traditional food from Old Blue BBQ and local beer from Port City Brewing Company. Brewery tours were also offered throughout the evening.

Port City has hosted the fundraiser every year since it began, Anderson said. Current and former board members joined sponsors and other supporters for the celebration.
