Old Town Alexandria will celebrate George Washington’s birthday on Feb. 15 with a major parade followed by a period-inspired dinner at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum.
The George Washington Birthday Parade will run from 2 to 4 p.m. along the Old Town parade route. Billed as the nation’s oldest and largest parade honoring Washington, the event is expected to draw thousands of spectators.
This year’s theme, “George Washington: America’s Commander-in-Chief,” marks the 250th anniversary of the Revolutionary War and the founding of the United States Army. Lt. Gen. Heidi J. Hoyle, the Army’s deputy chief of staff, will serve as grand marshal. Parade registration closes Jan. 31.
The celebration will continue from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 N. Royal St. The George Washington Birthnight Dinner will feature four courses inspired by the period, accompanied by wine.
Brian Hilton will portray Washington and host the evening. Peter Henriques, a professor of history emeritus at George Mason University, will discuss Washington’s military career and legacy.
Tickets for the dinner cost $150 per person, and cocktail attire is recommended.
