Reston’s 2025 National Night Out doubled as the official launch of a new effort to bring residents, community groups and local law enforcement closer together.
The Reston Community Center hosted the Tuesday, Aug. 5, event with the Hunters Woods Neighborhood Coalition and the Fairfax County Police Department’s Reston District Station. Activities ran from noon to 2 p.m. outside the Hunters Woods Fellowship House and the community center.
The gathering kicked off the One Hunters Woods Initiative, which seeks to unite the wider community with representatives from the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office and Police Department.
Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn, who represents the Hunter Mill District, said National Night Out offered an ideal setting for the launch. He described the event as a celebration of Reston’s community center, restaurants, vendors, Fellowship House, faith communities and law enforcement agencies.
The annual observance emphasized how stronger relationships among neighbors can improve feelings of safety and build trust with police.
Attendees included two Reston families who met Officer H. McKennedy of the Reston District Station. Alcorn also mingled with residents and held Oshi, a friendly Pomeranian.
