Southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway traffic will be diverted between Route 123 and Spout Run Parkway this weekend as work continues on the North Parkway Rehabilitation Project.

The detour begins at 10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31, and ends at 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. One northbound lane will remain open during construction.

A fallen “No Outlet” sign was also spotted near a snow-blocked street curb in Vienna.

Teen charged after Herndon shooting

Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Thursday in connection with the Jan. 29 shooting of a man near Worldgate Centre.

The teenager faces charges including malicious wounding, using a firearm to commit a felony, shooting into an occupied vehicle and willfully firing a gun in public.

Airport collision renews airspace concerns

A deadly collision near Reagan National Airport involving a passenger plane and an Army helicopter has renewed scrutiny of crowded airspace around Washington, D.C.

Two Virginia members of Congress said they have raised concerns about congestion in the region’s skies for years. Sen. Mark Warner cautioned that investigators have not yet determined what caused the crash.

Loudoun residents press supervisors on casino bill

A coalition of Loudoun County residents urged the Board of Supervisors to oppose legislation that would make Fairfax County eligible to host a casino.

County Chair Phyllis Randall said the board would not take a position on the General Assembly bill.

Halal restaurant targets Annandale opening

Blazin Halal is preparing to open at 4367 John Mar Drive in Annandale’s Eastgate shopping center, next to Glam Karaoke.

The restaurant is taking over the former Munch & Co. and Yomie’s Rice X Yogurt space and could open as early as mid-February.

Fairfax Corner lingerie shop plans move

Belle Mode Intimates will leave its current Fairfax Corner storefront, owner Nicole Martin announced.

The lingerie retailer plans to relocate somewhere nearby, with the new store expected to open this spring.

Fairfax County golf ranges earn national honors

Burke Lake Golf Center and Oakmont Golf Center have been named among the country’s 50 best public golf ranges by Golf Range Magazine.

The publication is produced by the Golf Range Association of America and the Professional Golf Association.

Heavy rain and strong gusts expected

Rain is forecast throughout Friday, with a high near 55 degrees, south winds of 9 to 11 mph and gusts reaching 30 mph. Expected rainfall totals range from one-half to three-quarters of an inch.

Rain has a 50% chance of continuing Friday night until about 1 a.m. Skies should then begin clearing as temperatures fall to around 42 degrees.
